The history of the Day-Date is maybe one of the most important ones from the Rolex line-up.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eLaunched in 1956 as a niche model and only produced in precious metals (yellow, white- and rose gold or platinum). The price of the Day-Date was way costlier than any other Rolex model, but that didn’t affected the desirability. It immediately became Rolex’ flagship model due to its popularity among a lot of prestigious people, for example presidents, which is also where its nickname ‘President’ comes from.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe very first Day-Date references (65XX and 66XX) were replaced by the 18XX series in 1959. One of the key-features of these references are the iconic so-called Pie Pan dials. The outer ring of the dial slopes downward from the flat centre, which looks like an upside-down pie pan. That’s exactly why we get excited when we find a special dial like this one. It already is quite hard to find a well-preserved 1803 in white gold, but finding one with a white dial from this period is something else. Therefore, it’s refreshing when we see watches like this Oyster 6426, which offers many interesting design changes and transitions. The manual wind movements were a large part of Rolex history, named the ‘’Precision’’ line and therefore wears thinner than a typical Rolex watch with an automatic movement.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe 6426 is the perfect example of the timelessness of a simple, yet elegant design. There are many different variations and details, because the 6426 is produced from the late 1950s throughout the 1970s. Over this time, Rolex made so many changes: different lume, bracelet styles, dials and movements. This particular example features a beautiful ‘Linen’ dial, which is one of our favourites at Roia. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIt becomes quite hard to find well-preserved watches from this period, but the condition of this Rolex Oyster 6426 is beautiful. The predecessor 6494 got replaced in the early 1960s by one of the brand’s most popular models, the Oysterdate 6694.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe 6694 was one of the most poplar models back then, because it didn’t only featured a higher-beat movement, but steady and tight craftsmanship throughout its entire production.  This 6694 features a beautiful blue sunburst dial with the classic baton hands hour-markers. The case is unpolished, the Foled Oyster bracelet shows no stretch and the lume plots on the hands and markers are beautifully aged and still in tact.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe surface of the dial around the lume plots are showcasing varnishing of the radioactivity from the tritium lume, which is amazing to see. The Rolex Date was available in a wide variety of different configurations and featured the exact some COSC-certified movement as Rolex’s Datejust watches from the same era. Therefore, the Date makes zero compromises in regard to timekeeping and overall reliability. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe Date 1500 was first introduced in the early 1960s and remaining in production through the late 1970s. This particular example is from 1972, and shows us why some watches are made to stand the test of time. Its reliability and overall design aesthetic is timeless. It’s always a pleasure to offer you a well-preserved Date, but especially when it comes with a special dial like this one. This 1500 features a so called ‘’Taupe’’ dial, which is complimenting the list of the most desirable dials nowadays. The text can be printed white and black, but they both have the opportunity to disappear when the light hits the dial a certain way, which is exactly why many collectors admire these dials.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe watch features a newer solid Oyster bracelet, which is replaced during the original Rolex service, and therefore adds onto its reliability even more. The case is very strong, the dial is spotless and every single lume plot is still in tact.
