Rolex Datejust 1600 Gilt
The Datejust is by far one of the most iconic models from Rolex’s line-up. In 1945, the flagship Datejust was created to mark the company’s 40th anniversary, which also directly resulted in the creation of the world’s first self-winding wristwatch with a date indication.
Reference 1600 is frequently confused with reference 1601. We can understand why, because the 1601 is seen the most. Rolex made less examples of the 1600, which obviously results in a demand by true collectors. The 16xx series didn’t only pave the way, but it showcased that good design will stand the test of time. The 16xx series are distinguished by their pie pan dials, which are widely appreciated by collectors.
We handle a lot of watches every single year, but sometimes there are watches you won't forget soon. This particular example is one of them, this Rolex Datejust 1600 features a very unique and attractive gilt dial. The 'black' gilt dial is beautifully aged towards a brown colour (tropical). We use words like tropical, patina and “beautifully aged” only when they truly apply, and on this one they absolutely do. The dial, hands, and case all carry that perfect balance of vintage charm and excellent preservation. It’s always a pleasure to offer a well-preserved icon, especially when it's a rare one like this.
This one wasn't easy to find and will not be easy to find again. That's exactly what we love about our passion, finding the most unique pieces.
