Rolex Datejust 16200 'Blue'
While the 16234, with its iconic fluted bezel and Jubilee bracelet, often takes the spotlight among classic Datejust models, the 16200 offers a subtler alternative. Its understated design makes it ideal for those who prefer to fly under the radar. From a distance, it could be mistaken for an Oyster Perpetual Date or even a classic Air-King. Perfectly sized at 36mm, this watch appeals to those who value timeless proportions but favor a more modest aesthetic.
The watch presented here is a complete collector’s set, originating from its first Dutch owner. What truly sets this piece apart is its rare and desirable “Tritinova” dial. Although the watch was delivered in 2000, its A-series serial number dates it to 1999—an important transitional year for Rolex. The dial bears the “T Swiss Made T” marking, traditionally indicating the use of tritium, but this one is applied with Luminova.
At first glance, this may raise concerns about a relume, but let us explain why this isn’t the case. As mentioned, 1999 was a transitional year. During this period, Rolex produced watches with both tritium and Luminova dials. Production processes weren’t as streamlined as they are today, and Rolex, ever mindful of quality, didn’t discard usable components. Dials were manufactured in large batches, and as Rolex transitioned from tritium to Luminova, they continued using the remaining stock of tritium-marked dials.
This stunning timepiece features a perfectly preserved blue Tritinova dial and is offered as a complete collector’s set. Recently serviced, it’s ready to grace someone’s wrist once again—a timeless and modest addition to any collection.
