Rolex Day-Date 18038
This Day-Date is a perfect example of a watch that is made to be rare. It’s always a pleasure to offer special and rare watches like these, especially when it’s one of our favourite models. The Day-Date.
The Day-Date was launched in 1956 as a niche model and only produced in precious metals (yellow, white- and rose gold or platinum). The price of the Day-Date was way costlier than any other Rolex model, but that didn’t affected the desirability. Like everything, there are different kind of levels to it. This particular example is something else. Let’s dive into it. This Day-Date 1803 is from 1978 is filled with unique and rare features. Let’s begin with the 18k yellow gold case which is signed by Asprey— an elite mark tied to Rolex’s close relationship with Asprey of London in the 1970s.
Asprey supplied special-order Rolexes to Middle Eastern royalty, including the Sultan of Oman. This watch, with Arabic day and date discs and the Asprey stamp, was likely a private commission or royal gift.
I already hear you thinking, what about the dial? The dial is a very rare Blue Stella dial. Stella dials were produced in limited numbers during the 1970s and were originally targeted at Middle Eastern and Asian markets. Their bold enamel colors and fragile lacquer finish make surviving examples—especially in good condition—highly sought after by collectors today.
I think we’ve said enough, watch the detailed pictures and enjoy yourself!
