Vacheron Constantin Chronomètre Royal Ref. 6226

There are few names in watchmaking that command the same respect as Vacheron Constantin. The Chronomètre Royal perfectly reflects everything the Maison stands for: understated elegance, uncompromising craftsmanship and exceptional quality. Produced in relatively small numbers, these watches were never about making a statement through size or complication, but through uncompromising quality, elegant design and exceptional finishing. More than half a century later, they remain one of the purest expressions of vintage Vacheron Constantin.

This particular Chronomètre Royal ref. 6226, dating to 1958, is executed entirely in 18k yellow gold and fitted with its original integrated mesh bracelet, manufactured by the renowned London jeweller David Shackman for Vacheron Constantin. The bracelet carries both London assay marks and Swiss import hallmarks, confirming its official importation into the United Kingdom, a wonderful period detail that collectors truly appreciate.

Measuring 35mm, the watch has remarkable wrist presence, largely thanks to the beautifully executed integrated bracelet. However, what immediately caught our attention is the dial. The original raised enamel dial remains completely untouched, something that has become exceptionally difficult to find today. Over the decades, many dials from this period were refinished during service, making honest, original examples increasingly scarce. On this particular watch, even the slightly faded 'N' in Constantin tells part of that story. Rather than being a flaw, it is exactly the kind of detail that reassures us the dial has never been restored. It is these small imperfections that preserve the watch's authenticity and charm.

The applied faceted hour markers, elegant dauphine hands and perfectly balanced subsidiary seconds create a design that immediately recalls the finest dress watches of the era. Inside beats Vacheron Constantin's manually wound calibre 12''' 1007, a movement distinguished by not one, but two Geneva Seal stamps. Completing the package is an Extract from the Archives, confirming the watch's production and adding another highly desirable element for collectors. Surviving examples of the Chronomètre Royal ref. 6226 with an untouched raised enamel dial, original David Shackman bracelet and accompanying archive extract are encountered only rarely today.

A beautifully honest example of one of Vacheron Constantin's finest post-war dress watches. Fully serviced by our watchmakers as well. This piece goes to someone who knows what is special.
